I have been involved with the fantastic Houndsfirst Sighthound Rescue for around 4 years, being a foster carer, an adopter, a transporter and a fundraiser. They have hounds in private foster homes undergoing assessment all over Britain who are waiting for the right human to come along and give them a loving new home which they may not have experienced before. Houndsfirst work closely with other rescues to get what is best for the dogs.
For the last 2 years my eldest disabled son and I have done our version of the welsh 3 peaks challenge, in a week in August giving us time so that we could make allowances for his abilities, whilst being sponsored for the charity. This year I wanted to do something different so my youngest son who is disabled and has Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and I are walking from the source of the river Wye, high in the Cambrian mountains above Plynlymon to Glasbury, 30 miles+ and then canoeing, 90 miles+ to Brockwier and then walking the final part to Chepstow of approx 10 miles to where the river empties into the Severn estuary. We are aiming to do this within a maximum of 10 days in August 2018 and again we have to make allowances for our limitations which we may encounter along the way.
